In association with Wizards of the Coast, the creators of Magic: The Gathering, and the Magic experts at Top Deck (Wizards' official trading-card game magazine) Thunder's Mouth Press announces the next volume in the essential reference series Magic: the Gathering -- the Official Encyclopedia Volume 5. Magic: The Gathering deck types - There are many ways to win games of Magic: The Gathering, a fact made possible by its thousands of cards, which can be used together in countless ways. To build an effective deck, the player must choose a strategy and design their deck around it.

Aggro deck - Aggro deck is a Magic: The Gathering term for a deck of at least sixty Magic: The Gathering cards which attempts to win the game through persistent, quick damage dealing. Usually these decks will use small, hard-hitting creatures to win the game.

Combo deck - Combo deck is a Magic: The Gathering term for a deck of (usually sixty) Magic: The Gathering cards that aims to win the game using a relatively small number of "killer" cards. Because of this win strategy, a common motif among combo decks is an emphasis put on the ability to find specific cards quickly and win as fast as possible.

Control deck - In the trading card game Magic the Gathering, created by Richard Garfield, there is a deck archtype known as a control deck. A control deck is essentially a type of deck that uses spells that destroy and hinder an opponent's creatures, creatures with useful abilities, and sometimes Enchantment cards like Moat (A card that stops your opponent's creatures with flying from attacking you) to slowly gain control of the game through rendering the opponent unable to do anything effective.
